- LETTERS, Page 5Abbie Hoffman's Legacy
-
- I remember Abbie Hoffman from his work Steal This Book,
- which I first read in the '70s (NATION, April 24). A classmate
- had brought the book to school, and a friend of mine stole it.
- A few years later, I lifted the work from my friend. And after
- two years, someone took it from me. Hoffman may be gone, but his
- beliefs will be passed on from one generation to the next. Just
- like that little book.

- The death of Hoffman and the symbolic end of a pernicious
- era in America must be greeted with relief. That an anarchist
- revolutionary like Hoffman could have achieved such notoriety
- typifies what was wrong with his generation. He was the kind of
- person you warned your kids about.
