  3.     I remember Abbie Hoffman from his work Steal This Book,
  4. which I first read in the '70s (NATION, April 24). A classmate
  5. had brought the book to school, and a friend of mine stole it.
  6. A few years later, I lifted the work from my friend. And after
  7. two years, someone took it from me. Hoffman may be gone, but his
  8. beliefs will be passed on from one generation to the next. Just
  9. like that little book.

  13.     The death of Hoffman and the symbolic end of a pernicious
  14. era in America must be greeted with relief. That an anarchist
  15. revolutionary like Hoffman could have achieved such notoriety
  16. typifies what was wrong with his generation. He was the kind of
  17. person you warned your kids about.
